Updating how delivery tasks are priced and shown on Wolt.

Wolt Courier Partner App to show the earnings for each task before a courier partner accepts or rejects it + more updates coming soon.  In this post, we're sharing some updates about how planned updates to how courier partners earn on Wolt.

We are updating the Wolt Courier Partner app to show courier partners the fee they can earn for each delivery task before they accept or reject it. This feature has been asked by our courier partners for a long time, and it hopefully makes it easier to decide which tasks to accept. This feature is being introduced in several Wolt countries before the end of 2022.

Coming soon:

Thank you for reading the recap for our planned updates. For further information, please check the contact page or reach out to our support team on the Wolt app.

During 2023, we also want to make sure the earnings for each task take better into account the actual effort for a given task.

This is why we'll move to a new model where a courier partner sees the fee for each task before accepting it AND the fee will also be individually determined for each task. The below will affect the fee:

  • Estimated route distance – we'll move to a model where the distance fee will be based on the actual estimated driven distance. The fee will also be updated.

  • Pick-up distance – you'll get paid for the distance to the pick-up location

We’ll also be able to take the following into account when offering you a fee:

  • Customer and restaurant/store location (e.g. are they difficult to reach?)

  • Weather (e.g. is it raining or does the weather mean more courier partners are needed?)

  • Type of order (e.g. is it a big grocery order or one hamburger?)

  • Other (e.g. are there large hills, are there poor parking conditions, etc.?)

FAQ

  • In the next couple of weeks the way we show your earnings per task will change so that the Wolt Courier Partner App shows you the fee for a given task before you accept or reject it.

In a few months, we are changing the way each task is priced, so that the fee takes better into account the actual effort required for a given task.

  • For now, the fees will stay the same. In a few months time, we will update the fee model so that the earnings for each task will be better matched with the effort needed.

  • The new features will make it easier for you to know the fee for each task. You will be shown the full fee up front before you accept or reject it. (Note: tips and fees for completion of orders within a certain timeframe will be added on top).

  • We hope you will give this new model a try and see how your earnings develop. Then you can decide for yourself if you want to continue delivering with us. It will not be possible to continue on the old agreement once the new addition comes into effect.

We’ve put a lot of work into rebuilding our earning model, which will result in more fairly distributed earnings for all courier partners, and in fees that are better aligned with the effort needed for a specific task.

  • Some tasks will be paid less than they are today, yes. However, other tasks will be paid more. In the future, you will see the fee for each task before accepting it AND the fee will also be individually determined for each task.

  • By showing the fee before you decide whether to accept or reject the task, we think there’s better transparency into the earnings - and it’s easier to decide if the given task is worthwhile.

  • In the current model, we have an inflexible fee chart and look up the fee for each task, and that is it. In the current model, the fee per task isn’t based on the effort. This is why we'll move to a new model where a courier partner sees the fee for each task before accepting it AND the fee will also be individually determined for each task.

  • For now, no changes will be made to the fees. The base and distance fees will change when we move into the new model sometime next year. Instead of the fees being fixed, they will be individually determined for each task. You will always see the task price before you accept it.

  • No. We are first and foremost doing this because it is more fair and aligns the earnings per task with the actual effort.

  • The changes are based on feedback from thousands of courier partners over the years. They have asked us to use route/navigator/road distance rather than straight-line distance, and asked for a pick-up distance fee.

With these updates, we are able to address the feedback.

  • That is a very fair question and a concern we take very seriously. We are dependent on our courier partners and we care about keeping them happy - and that means ensuring a certain level of earnings. We are competing for talent against every other company, and if we do not offer decent earnings, we will not be able to attract and keep couriers on Wolt.

This would mean that we have no business.
