Update about the new per task pricing model

What’s up with the new payment?

The purpose of the new model is to pay more fairly for every order, so each task is equally attractive and better reflects the effort it takes to deliver it. This means that some tasks will be better paid than before, and some will be worse, but overall there should be net zero impact.

In short the model aim to:

  • Pay for the estimated actual distance of your task and not an estimated straight line distance like before

  • Pay for pick up distance to the restaurant and store in addition to drop off

  • Provide a more flexible task fee that better take into account weather and peak hours

  • Give you the ability to see what you can earn before you accept an order

By this, each task should be equally attractive and hence help us reduce the task rejection. There should be small to no change in earnings if you accept all the tasks you are offered - this means a mix of short and longer tasks.

What is the thinking behind and goal of the new model?

We have taken all the feedback we have received from you over time, found the things that you asked for the most, and built a new payment model based on that.

The long term goal is to change the way we pay for tasks from a static/fixed pricing to a fully dynamic model. That means that each and every task will be priced individually. There will be no fixed base fee, straight line distance fee or other fixed fees. In this way we can make every task equally attractive, and better reflect the effort it takes to deliver each task.

In order to get there we needed to make some changes.

    • You will be paid for both pick-up and drop-off distances based on the estimated route.

    • More flexible task fees - e.g. higher fees in peaks - to better reflect the effort it takes to deliver the task. End game - all tasks individually paid

    • You can see what you earn for a task before you accept or reject it.

    • You were paid for drop-off distance only and calculated distance in straight lines.

    • All tasks were priced the same way no matter the weather, the traffic, the size/weight of the task.

    • You had to wait until the task was completed to know what you had earned.

What does that mean for you?

With the new model you will be able to see what you can expect to earn for each task before you accept or reject it. This gives you the opportunity to make informed decisions. Tips or bonuses will be added on your payout page after the task is completed, just as today.

Since we have moved from straight line distance to estimated route distance and we include the pick-up distance, the average distance will increase. The distance starts counting from the first 100 meters and then every following 100 meters.

That means that in the new model you will get paid for:

  • Task fee

  • Total navigated distance (pick-up + drop-off distance)

  • Surge price (if applicable)

  • Tips or bonus (if applicable)

But with the navigated distance we needed to make some changes in how we do bundles:

  • Bundled orders will also be paid based on the estimated route distance between the pickup location(s) and delivery location(s) instead of the straight line distance from pick-up to each drop-off.

  • So from the example below your distance pay will be from the actual distance between: bicycle to point 1, from point 1 to point 2 and from point 2 to point 3.

Example of a bundle-task delivery:

  1. Pick-up location

  2. Customer

  3. Customer 2

Red distance = old model

Green distance = new model
